Opening Pilot and Powell, the New Orleans based luxury retail and lifestyle concept store, was a long time goal for co-owners Kathryn Bullock Joyner and Coeli Hilferty Boron. Conceived in late 2015 by the duo, Pilot and Powell opened its doors in November 2016.

Recognizing a gap in the under-retailed New Orleans market and leveraging their decade plus combined fashion retail experience in Buying, Merchandising, Fashion Marketing and Public Relations and Digital Marketing, Bullock and Hilferty seized the opportunity to open a store in the evolving city that they love.

They united to launch a high end retail space featuring a curated collection of cool, feminine, stylish clothing and accessories. With an eye for approachable luxury, modern classics and hints of southern polish, Bullock and Hilferty focused on catering to the modern New Orleans woman who embodies the easy metropolitan essence of the humid Southern city.

New Orleans, traditionally a slow-paced and much romanticized city of linen wearers, now vibrates with an inquisitive, fashion forward population cultivated during the city’s decade of post-Katrina growth and evolution. Pilot and Powell offers a wearable, interesting and slightly challenging edit of the world’s most exciting brands, carefully selected to reflect the city’s newly elevated atmosphere and intended to appeal to a sophisticated woman searching for an individualized shopping experience designed to meet all of her style needs. The freshly edited range of classic designer apparel and progressive contemporary sportswear and accessories, sit next to cosmetics, fragrances, gifts and books. In-house alterations and an inviting, warm atmosphere round out Pilot and Powell’s one-stop-shop model.

The light and airy store sits in the heart of vibrant Magazine Street, New Orleans’ bustling main retail corridor. Magazine Street retains its rich historic architecture, making it one of the country’s most unique shopping areas consisting of a 7-mile, 80 block stretch of premier restaurants, antique stores, art galleries, interior design studios, and clothing boutiques that are largely locally owned.

Hilferty, hailing from Philadelphia, comes to the project with a background in art history and fashion public relations and marketing, most recently serving as the Director of Marketing and Public Relations for New Orleans based jewelry designer Mignon Faget.

Bullock, a New Orleans native with an eye for the luxury and the up and coming, entered the project with over a decade of experience in the personal shopping department of Saks Fifth Avenue and as the Creative Director for Mimi overseeing buying and merchandising.
